2. A song officially adopted by a country as an expression of national

Process:
I. You will listen to national anthems. On a seperate sheet of paper, write your name on the top and then answer the following
questions:
1. How does the song make you feel?
2. What is the tempo (is the music fast or slow)?
3. What does the song make you want to do?
4. What is the song referring to or celebrating?
5. How difficult is the song to sing? Can all people sing it, or only people who are musically gifted? Are the notes high, low, or
a combination?
6. What do you believe to be the overall message of the anthem?
Point Value: 12 points; 24 questions at 0.5 points each.
II. You will choose a flag from the ones pictured above. On the same sheet of paper you will answer the following questions:
1. What flag did you choose?
2. What colors are used?
3. What do these colors represent?
4. What symbols or shapes are on the flag (stripes are a shape)?
5. What do these symbols and shapes represent?
6. Overall, what do you believe the flag says about the country it represents?
Point Value: 6 points; 6 questions at 1 point each.
III. You will now create an anthem or flag that represents you.
1. If you are creating a flag, it must include:
-At least two colors. (5 points)
-At least two symbols or shapes. (5 points)
-Descriptions. On the back of the flag, you must list the meaning of every color, shape, and symbol you used. (7 points)
-Creativity and Neatness. (3 points)
2. If you are creating an anthem, it must be:
-At least one verse and one chorus. (5 points)
-At least 150 words in length. (5 points)
-Typed and submitted via Angel.
-Gramatically correct, with minimal to no errors. PROOFREAD, PROOFREAD, PROOFREAD. (5 points)
-Creative. On the document you submit, you must explain how the song would sound if it were recorded. Would it be
fast or slow? Happy, sad, scary, etc.? Who would sing your song--everyone, a famous singer, or only the musically
gifted? (5 points)
***If you would like extra credit, you can do both the anthem and the flag for up to an additional 5 points. Also, if you would like to sing/rap and record your
anthem, you can earn an extra 5 bonus points.***
Point Value: 20 points (maximum of 10 bonus points available, as well)
